Vehicle Extrication Training Drill

On Tuesday, November 15, 2016, members of OMVFCo held a vehicle extrication training exercise.  Members practiced stabilizing an overturned car; removing doors that are pinned shut; a roof roll to allow access to a trapped patient; and moving a dash board if it is compressing a victim.

Special thanks to Mark Moody for the photos.

Mission BBQ Fundraiser for OMVFCo

The brand new Mission BBQ in Foundry Row will be hosting a fundraiser charity night for the OMVFCo on October 19th from 6pm-9pm.  Space is limited, so you must RSVP to mission21117@mission-bbq.com.  We are very excited for this event and their grand opening a few days later on October 24th.

Annual Firemen's Carnival Coming to an End

The members and officers of the Owings Mills Volunteer Fire Company are sad to announce that our Annual Firemen's Carnival will be coming to an end. There will be no carnival in 2016, and for the foreseeable future.  The event was one of our largest fundraisers of the year, bringing in an average of $40,000.

In an effort to make up these funds, members of OMVFCo will be holding "Fill The Boots" every night  from June 14-25.

Over the years, the carnival was held at our old fire station on Reisterstown Road (on the side of the current Buffalo Wild Wings and Garrison Forest Shopping Center) and at the Owings Mills Metro Station.  For a brief time, the carnival was held at the Arcadia Volunteer Fire Company before it was moved to the Owings Mills Mall.

With pending plans to demolish the mall, we were not able to secure the location for the carnival, which was normally held in June.

Owings Mills VFW Presents OMVFCO with 3 Flags

At our company's meeting on April 25th, Mr Tom Conrad from VFW post 521 VFW, (located at 214 Tollgate Rd) presented to the company three new flags to be flown at the station. These special flags included a United States flag, a Maryland state flag, and a POW/MIA flag.  We appreciate their service and will fly these flags proudly moving forward.

Fill the Boot and a Special Firehouse Visitor

We'd like to thank everyone in Owings Mills that supported our Fill-the-Boot yesterday.  In a little over an hour, our volunteers raised just over $1,100.  When our crews returned to the station, we had a special visitor.  The little guy seen below sleeps with his turnout gear by his bed every night.  His dad brought him to the firehouse to meet our first responders and check out the fire trucks.

2016 Child Safety Seat Inspection Schedule

The Child Safety Seat Inspection program is part of the MD Department of Health and Mental Hygiene “Kids In Safety Seats” public awareness campaign, where caregivers can have the installation of their car seats inspected by trained members of the Police Department. The Fire Department hosts these events monthly in career and volunteer fire stations throughout Baltimore County.  The full schedule can be downloaded as PDF here.
